Lobo Forensics was founded in 2018 with the creation of an American-made Bureau-style scale with both fractional (Inches) and metric measurements.

The story behind the Lobo Forensics Bureau scale.

As a public servant in a small part of Eastern Washington I wear many hats. One of them is as a photographer. I photograph many different types of scenes. In late 2017 I was had a wonderful training opportunity when I attended a 40 hour forensic photography class.

After the class was completed I looked for a Bureau scale to add to my photography kit. I spent weeks scouring the web looking for a scale that uses the standard system of measurements (Inches). I found many different types of scales. Some were too small. Some were only straight edges. Some were folding scales.

I wanted a scale that would allow me to take photos of tire treads, footprints, and larger evidence items. I wanted the scale to have a fixed 90 degree angle. I wanted the scale to be in inches.

All my searching came up empty. I was frustrated because during the class I used such a scale. I copied the company information that was listed on the scale. But that company didn't have any such scales for sale.

I came across an American company based in Oregon that makes scales and rulers of all shapes and sizes. I spoke to a rep and explained what I wanted and told him about the company which at one time had bureau-style scales in inches. He told me that company was actually part of a much larger company. He said that much larger company has Bureau scales for sale. But those scales are only in metric measurements. The rep said he knows that much larger company doesn't sell bureau scales in inches. He said he knows this because his company produces the scales sold by the much larger company. Another dead end.

I then decided to work with the Oregon company to design a Bureau-style scale that had fractional measurements. Originally, my plan was only to have fractional measurements. I decided if I were to include metric measurements I could have a product with a larger sales base.

After many hours of designing the scale it was sent to the Oregon company for creation into the Lobo Forensics Bureau Scale. This bureau-style scale is 6 inches by 12 inches and has both a black and a white side.
